“Combatting White Saviorism in Adult-Youth Relationships & Youth-Serving Organizations”

Presented By: Adelaide Moschler, Learning & Development Manager, MENTOR Independence Region & Co-Facilitator Adult-youth relationships and youth-serving organizations have the power to reproduce racial inequity. Adults and youth-serving organizations like CASA/GAL have a moral obligation to do no harm to the youth and families engaged in our programs. In this workshop, CASA volunteers and staff will explore what white saviorism can look like as well as the harmful impact it can have on youth. Participants will develop the ability to recognize white saviorism in adult-youth relationships and youth-serving programs, and explore concrete strategies to combat its harmful effects. The goal of this 90-minute workshop is for CASA volunteers and staff to better understand the harmful impact of white saviorism on youth and their families, and to motivate all participants to take action to dismantle white saviorism in their relationships with youth and youth-serving organizations.
