Support and Advocacy for LGBTQ+ Youth

October 22, 2024 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Back by popular demand, in partnership with Chase Brexton’s The Center for LGBTQ Health Equity, made possible by an Ally grant from Ticket To Dream, CASA of Baltimore County is proud to present “Cultural Humility and LBGTQ+ Communities: Support and Advocacy for LGBTQ+ Youth”. This training was first provided in October, 2023 but the demand was high to continue the conversations and start new ones! So whether you’re coming for Part 2, or would like to come learn and ask questions how to best support our CASA youth, join us for the following:

Clinicians, healthcare workers and social advocates serve sexual and gender minority people every day, but adequate preparation about supporting these populations is rarely offered professional training. Using a Cultural Humility framework, this workshop provides a broad overview of LGBTQ+ terms, gender identity concepts, cultural beliefs, health disparities, and barriers to accessing services, as well as best practice strategies for creating an affirming care experience for both CASA volunteers and the diverse youth they serve.
Kate Bishop, MSSA (pronouns she/her), Education Coordinator at the Center for LGBTQ Health Equity of Chase Brexton, is a seasoned professional development trainer with expertise in working with LGBTQ populations, sexual and reproductive health care, adolescent development, intimate partner violence, and sexual trauma. She is certified as a trainer through GLSEN (Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network) as well as SAGE (Services and Advocacy for GLBT Elders). Before joining the Chase Brexton team, she developed the capacity building program at the University of Maryland School of Medicine’s STAR TRACK Adolescent HIV program, providing cultural responsiveness trainings for agencies that serve sexual minority youth of color. Ms. Bishop holds a Bachelor of Arts in Gender Studies from Hiram College and a Masters in Social Work from Case Western Reserve University.

Dinner and CEUs provided!
