A series of Volunteer Discussions:  “Project Perspective – Supporting Our Youth in a Time of Heightened Social Injustice”

First up in the series is Conversation About Identity

Join us for an opportunity to gain insight & reflect on experiences that impact the youth we serve. This will be the first in a series of discussions that will explore topics of identity, equality, relationships, and how as a volunteer you can empower youth to use their voice.

We will begin to explore the complexity of Black identity in America and discuss how a history of preferences for shades and tones shape how minority youth see themselves . . .

*Spaces are limited. The first 15 people to sign up will be entered to win a COVID Stay Healthy Stay Home Survival kit. We welcome everyone to participate for a richer conversation and experience; after 15 we’ll start a waiting list for a second discussion, same topic.

Shekinah Faith Davis (she/her/hers) was born in Portland, Oregon and raised in the Dominican Republic. She is African American, identifying as Afro-Latina because of her 18+ years living in the Caribbean and traveling to various Hispanic/Latinx countries around the world. Her experience as a translator in the Dominican Republic, a photographer and research interviewer in Nicaragua, and most recently as a Community Health Promoter in Peace Corps Ecuador have given her a passion to learn about diverse cultural historicities and how to advocate for marginalized voices and communities. Ms. Davis is currently a peaceworker with The Shrivers Center for Truth, Racial Healing, and Transformation at UMBC, where she is also pursuing a Master’s in Intercultural Communication and Diversity Training. An extrovert at heart, Shekinah enjoys long hugs, poetry slams, long bike rides, and extra spicy food. Her friends use the following nouns to describe her: punny, warm, adventurous, passionate, faithful, and creative.
